'Shortly before His death, Buddha reportedly told His followers
that, in His absence, the Dharma (His doctrines or teachings)
would be their leader. Although early Buddhist thinkers took
great pains to use Buddha's own words as the primary source for
formulating and transmitting Buddhist doctrines, teachings, and
rules for community living, no unadulterated collection of
Buddha's sayings exists today. The different versions of the
accepted scripture of Buddhism are sectarian variants of a body
of work that took form during 300 years of oral transmission.
As with Hinduism, the sacred literature of Buddhism is very diverse
and complex. Most Buddhist scholars divide the wide array of
scriptures into the Pali, Chinese, and Tibetan canons. Together,
these include literally hundreds of volumes of work, containing
thousands of texts which deal with a multitude of subjects.'
(from Farnaz Ma'sumian in the book 'Life after Death')
In a famous Pali text attributed to Sariputra, the great disciple of Buddha, and accepted by all Pali orthodoxy He says:
'Oh disciples, there is a non-born, a non-produced, [a] non-created, a non-formed, if there were not, oh disciples, a non-born, a non-produced, a non-created and a non-formed, there would be no issue for the born, the produced, the created, the formed.'
Buddha, The Word (The Eightfold Path)
Birth is suffering; Decay is suffering; Death is suffering; Sorrow, Lamentation, Pain, Grief, and Despair, are suffering; not to get what one desires, is suffering; in short: the Five Groups of
Existence are suffering.
Buddha, The Gospel The Disciple Speaks
The Buddha, our Lord, brings comfort to the weary and
sorrow-laden; he restores peace to those who are broken down under the
burden of life. He gives courage to the weak when they would fain give
up self-reliance and hope. You who suffer from the tribulations of
life, you who have to struggle and endure, you who yearn for a life of
truth, rejoice at the glad tidings! There is balm for the wounded, and
there is bread for the hungry. There is water for the thirsty, and
there is hope for the despairing. There is light for those in
darkness, and there is inexhaustible blessing for the upright.
The Vagrakkhedika Or Diamond-Cutter
Then Bhagavat having in the forenoon put on his undergarment, and having taken his bowl and cloak, entered the great city of Sravasti to collect alms. Then Bhagavat, after he had gone to the great city of Sravasti to collect alms, performed the act of eating, and having returned from his round in the afternoon, he put away his bowl and cloak, washed his feet, and sat down on the seat intended for him, crossing his legs, holding his body upright, and turning his reflection upon himself.

The Buddha-Karita of Asvaghosha
That Arhat is here saluted, who has no counterpart,-who, as bestowing the supreme happiness, surpasses (Brahman) the Creator,-who, as driving away darkness, vanquishes the sun,-and, as dispelling all burning heat, surpasses the beautiful moon.
Sammaditthi Sutta The Discourse on Right View
"When a noble disciple has thus understood nutriment, the origin of nutriment, the cessation of nutriment, and the way leading to the cessation of nutriment, he entirely abandons the underlying tendency to greed, he abolishes the underlying tendency to aversion, he extirpates the underlying tendency to the view and conceit 'I am,' and by abandoning ignorance and arousing true knowledge
The Larger Sukhavati-Vyuha. The Land Of Bliss.
Then the blessed Ananda, having risen from his seat, having put his cloak on one shoulder, and knelt on the earth with his right knee, making obeisance with folded hands in the direction of the Bhagavat, spoke thus to the Bhagavat: 'Thy organs of sense, O Bhagavat, are serene, the colour of thy skin is clear, the colour of thy face bright and yellowish. As an autumn cloud is pale, clear, bright and yellowish, thus the organs of sense of the Bhagavat are serene, the colour of his face is clear, the colour of his skin bright and yellowish.
Buddhist Suttas Translated from Pâli by T. W. Rhys Davids
'Verily, it is that thirst (or craving), causing the renewal of existence, accompanied by sensual delight, seeking satisfaction now here, now there--that is to say, the craving for the gratification of the passions, or the craving for (a future) life, or the craving for success

But young Brahmadatta, his pupil, gave utterance, in many ways, to praise of the Buddha, to praise of the Doctrine, to praise of the Order. Thus they two, teacher and pupil, holding opinions in direct contradiction one to the other, were following, step by step.

Free of Lies
It seems like we are already living in a desert of materialism.
What would happen if all advertising were to be removed?
What if the only ad for a business was on the business itself?
What if all internet ads were stripped off and we were back
to the basic product of information and communication?
Not possible? I say we could do this when establishing new
colonies on the Moon or Mars or elsewhere, that we could
drop this huge blight from the society of our new land.
We could live a life as free of lies
as has not been seen
for two hundred years in this world.
